Kim Black

Born and raised almost entirely in Amarillo, Texas, I carry a deep love for the Lone Star state. I’m a Christian, a wife, a mom, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a friend. After my family, my passion is for writing, teaching Bible school, movies, and design.

By day, I am a professional building designer, specializing in custom homes. In the evenings, I write whenever I can. If I don’t have access to technology, paper or pen, I daydream my stories. I tumble them over and over in my mind’s eye until I get the chance to write them down.

I am blessed by God (and yes, even spoiled) with family and friends that support me, even when they don’t understand me. I love and adore them with all of my heart.

I am a member of the Texas High Plains Writers, an organization established in 1920 to support and encourage writers of all kinds throughout the Texas Panhandle and the surrounding area. I have served several terms on the Board of Directors, including two terms as President of the organization.

I’d love to come and present to your group, class, organization, or book club. I speak to college writing classes, children’s classes, and ladies groups, to name a few. Please contact me at for more information.

Topics include the process of writing, research, inspiration, Bible stories, how to encourage children to love story-telling, character construction, and more.

Smashwords Interview

Who are your favorite authors?
I've loved mysteries since my third-grade obsession with Nancy Drew. I still grab an Agatha Christie every chance I get. I also enjoy Rex Stout, Dashiell Hammet, and Raymond Chandler. I love the gothic style of Daphne Du Maurier, too!
I adore spies, so definitely a fan of Ian Fleming. As far as my contemporaries, I like Terry Blackstock, Paula Hawkins, and Pamela Fagan Hutchins.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family is pretty great, and I love to be creative in just about everything I do. Also, I have a twelve-year-old terrier named Archie who wants to go out for a walk, rain or shine. He's pretty motivating.
