An engaging discovery of “cold case” facts that you can’t put down. It has a conclusion that is entirely up to the reader – has David Coombe unearthed the irrefutable evidence of a serial killer from 150 years ago?
This book has an unusual style that jumps out at you from the start. Yet the style is appropriate and immerses you in the context and era. It is quick to get used to and is a delightful journey into a bygone era where things were done very differently.
The true-life story of research into a family tree. The previously hidden facts are discovered and unpacked in a way that involves you in the detective work. Sequencing is superb. As each new piece of jaw-dropping evidence is examined, you inevitably ask “but what about …” questions that are answered along the way – with even more stunning evidence. It is a detective feast!
As I finished the last page, I couldn’t help but go back over the material provided on the companion website – just to confirm that I had just discovered evidence of a serial killer myself! And now that I’m left with this astonishing conclusion, my imagination is fired and I wonder more about what made Josephine tick. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.
