Tangled Up in Blue is LL Brown’s first novel. She has made a living waitressing, inventorying frozen foods, selling costume jewelry, and building mobile homes. She finally settled on teaching English to high school students, an infinite source of wonder and good material. She previously published a short story, “Sifting Out the Hearts of Men,” in the anthology Best of All Flesh. Her second book, Big Two-Hearted Driveway: a Novel in Stories, will be published this fall.

- What Happened in Fool the Eye
on Sep. 30, 2010
This is a charming book with a lot of layers. On the surface, it seems to be a bildungsroman, about a high school boy who ponders his fate in the face of the Vietnam War. It is also a rumination on fear of the other, family, and the meaning of life. I wish I could tell you about the ending so you would be driven to read this book. Suffice it to say it took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. The whole book jumped to a deeper level of meaning when I read the last page. Great book. Highly recommended.
- The Zombie Feed Volume 1

A good zombie story is what the world needs to slow down and put things in perspective. Seriously. This collection is a fine example of how metaphor prevails even in a field where gore is prevalent. My favorite story is Simon McCaffery's "Lifeboat," which is well worth the price of the download. Highly recommended.
