L.J.K. Oliva is the devil-may-care alter-ego of noir romance novelist Laura Oliva. She likes her whiskey strong, her chocolate dark, and her steak bloody. L.J.K. likes monsters… and knows the darkest ones don't live in closets.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born and bred (albeit badly) in the San Francisco Bay Area. There's an incredible energy here, between the mingle of a thousand different cultures and the constant rush of the Silicon Valley tech sector. You can't help but be inspired by the immigrants and the start-ups, and feel that if you work hard and play your cards right, you can do anything.
Also, the FOOD! Don't even get me started on the food...
When did you first start writing?
The earliest writing project I remember was a short story about a spunky pioneer girl I wrote in second grade. Even as a kid, I was drawn to strong, smart, self-sufficient heroines!
