Layne Steele

Biography

When I'm not writing, I can usually be found throughout the four-state region surrounding my city in Maryland with a camera pressed to my eye.

I use the pen name "Layne Steele" because it gets me out of my own head and into my characters' mindset, which in turn helps me write from their various perspectives. Plus, having one is just cool. Some of my characters are inspired by real people, but any actual resemblance is coincidental.

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I don't remember the first story I wrote, but the earliest one I do remember dates back to the late 1980s, and was a modern day ghost story inspired by Boston's legendary Lady In Black.
What is your writing process?
It all starts with nothing more than an idea. Usually I dive right in and start writing, allowing myself to follow the story wherever it goes. Once that's done, I'll go back and refine it, adding and removing plot points and other elements as necessary until I have a cohesive, flowing story.
