Hugh Stevenson

Hugh Stevenson is my pen name. I am a Scot who has had over 26 years' experience in the Offshore Financial Services Industry.

From early days with a respected London private bank I have spent the best part of a working lifetime in Offshore Financial Services. I have lived and worked in countries throughout the Middle East,, South East Asia and East Africa holding jobs ranging from 'gopher' to sales executive to investment manager and finally Managing Director.

After a long spell in Hong Kong as portfolio manager for 'Moneyplan Asia' I moved to Thailand in 1989 to establish a brokerage, John Jenner International Ltd., which is still extant. I thought that job might take 6 months or so and then move on. But I am still living in Thailand with no thoughts of ever leaving.

Now, getting a bit older but not attracted by the idea of retirement I have stepped back from the hurly-burly of marketing to take it a bit easier by speaking, writing and more recently, I have established an internet service aimed at helping expatriates make the most of the financial benefits of living outside of their home countries – and to avoid the many financial pitfalls.

"How to be an Expatriate" is aimed as a guide to living the expatriate life. It will be of particular interest to new or intending expatriates but 'old hands' too will find points of interest.

Hugh Stevenson.
