I didn't set out to write Urban fantasy, but when I sat with my laptop to begin The Calling, It became apparent that I still believed in the Bogey Men, the Monster in the cupboard and of course, the Faeries at the bottom of our garden. Suddenly I found that I was writing a story of Heroes who could be found both on our doorsteps and in the realms that lie beyond.
The scenic west coast of Scotland is where I live with my family.
This Urban fantasy series is suitable for older YA and adults. The concept of ‘normality’ is challenged, appearances deceive, and unlikely partnerships can form and thrive against all odds.
Praise for The Calling: Gateway series #1
“The calling is a fantastic, fast paced read with a little bit of everything including suspense, romance, fantasy and paranormal.” – Leigh Australia
“When you think of magic, mages and demons let me guess Harry Potter or Buffy The Vampire Slayer springs to mind, am I right? Well this isn't a television show or movie you can safely view from home or you can hit pause when the scenes gets scary. No this is my life, imagine a doorway leading to another realm or planet appearing. Just like in Stargate SG-1 minus all the fancy lights and armed Marines. Every time the gate opens something explosive happens forcing me to answer its call. Just like with any door demons, monsters and other Otherworlders comes out and not all of them are very friendly. Who am I you ask? To my friends I'm Carolyn McInally. To my enemies, I'm known as the Destroyer!” – Christine US
Hunters' Quest (book 2 in the Hunters of Reloria series)
on July 19, 2014
Kasper Beaumont delivers yet another delightful read with Hunters' Quest, Book 2 of the Hunters of Reloria series.
The quest for the precious Jewel continues and the heroes are developing beautifully against the amazing backdrop that has been so skilfully crafted.
Action-packed from the outset, the fantastical creatures abound with mermaids, Centaurs and gnomes to name only a few, introduced at stages throughout the fast moving plot.
The locations are as nicely drawn as to be expected from Kasper Beaumont and the glimpses of otherworldly religion, astrology and even the details of the Centaurs dietary preferences lend a delightful authenticity, as well as providing extra humour to the tale. I liked the lovely funny quirks of these creatures in much the same way as I was enamoured with the depiction of the fairies.
Daeron and elven princess Shari Rose's connection was particularly inspired, and I felt the pain of Daeron's situation with the lovely Cassie -Belle. He thinks she could do better than him! No, she couldn't, and I do hope that she can win him round in the future.
This is such an exciting read, learning more about the characters, the Dragons and the other amazing additions to The Hunters series.
The cliffhanger sets up peferctly for the next where I hope to see the Jewel rescued from an evil laser eyed Emperor on another world, find out what happens with the gifted Violetta, and I 'm also very curious what's going to happen with Randir's involvement with the seductive white halfling.
I highly recommend this fantastical read for the young 12+, and the young at heart.
