About Me

Hi I’m Lindsay, I have been sewing since I was 12. I have only been quilting for about 5 years but I am completely addicted. There are such a huge variety of things and techniques to use one can never become bored.
I live in a beautiful little town called Benoni, which is east of Johannesburg, in the province of Gauteng, South Africa. I am very blessed to have an understanding family, patient husband, Glynn, John, my son (Graphic designer & photographer) and Hayleigh, my daughter (Blogger, musician & graphic design guru).
I grew up in the amazing country of Zimbabwe, and then moved to South Africa when I left school.

The first quilt I ever made and quilted was for my son, when he was born in 1989, it was a panel of Noah’s’ ark, with all the animals. It was a cot sized quilt. I really struggled in the quilting of it as I used that huge loft batting, and didn’t know about walking feet, but I finished it, and I loved it. The second one was one for Hayleigh, it was an Alphabet panel quilt, same again struggling with huge batting, it was beautiful.
I sewed clothes for the kids while they were growing up.
A few years ago after doing all the sewing classes I could think of, I signed, up for a beginners quilting class, and have never looked back.
I have the Elna Quilters Dream machine and an Elna over locker. My long arm machine is the Husquavarna Viking, and my frame is from the Grace Company in America.
The family let me take over one of the lounges for my studio, so I can still be with them even if I am sewing. Hayleigh is even taking an interest in sewing these days so maybe it will rub off on her too.
I am Vice-Chair of our provincial guild: - “The Golden Rand Guild” and an accredited teacher with GRG. I belong to two smaller groups, one in Boksburg: - “Scrappy Angels” and I’m Chair-lady of our group here in Benoni, - “Q-East Quilters”. I have also just started a very small home group“ the Night Birds.” for a few of the ladies that still work during the day, we meet on the last Thursday evening of the month at my home.
My passion is Art quilting, I’ve exhibited a couple of my quilts internationally, with a consignment of South African quilts to France and Australia.
Art quilting is constantly evolving and innovative, it keeps my creativity sparking.

I have a philosophy in life that one should always strive to learn something new every year, so I have done many things, but when I started quilting, I never dreamed that it would be the most wonderful, amazing, journey of continuous learning from incredibly talented people, from all over the world, who are only too willing to share their knowledge, and made warm friends for life.
Welcome to my world.
