Eleven-year-old Winnie Frazier feels very grown-up and mature. She convinces her mother she is old enough to babysit her younger brother. However, when a severe storm moves in, Winnie is left in charge. She faces dangerous winds, a power outage, and no phone service. What is that noise in the basement? And is that a man lurking in the yard? Can Winnie act like a grown-up, or will she crumble?
