First off, gotta say I love love love werewolf books. Ms. Loftis's werewolf world-building is great and really get drawn into the stories. I recommend this book as a great mental getaway and a sweet love story. My only complaint is that sometimes the 3 friends are just a BIT too snarky. Sarcasm is great but sometimes it just makes them sound like 13 year old brats. Still, despite that I'm hooked and can't wait to read number three and figure out what is going to happen with J & D. Oh and I hope Sally can get some luvin' too.
I have read two of Lakisha's books and really enjoyed both of them. I like the complexity brought about by the were-council's internal politics and the conspiracy stuff with Laylah's dad/business partner/ etc. And, of course, I like the sweet love story between Laylah and Donil. The only thing I didn't like (which I tried to get myself to like by reminding myself that Laylah's wolf is an omega ((blah blah blah)) as the book reminds us) is her utter lack of gumption for almost 2 whole books. Even her acts of rebellion are planned out by someone else. Finally she defends herself but she really can't remember it. I think I'm more frustrated of her than Donil who seems to want her to grow a backbone too. But I'm hoping this is a big part of book number three, which I'm looking forward too and of course will buy. Keep writing Lakisha, I need you for my rainy day book binges! :)
