Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up, and still live, in a small suburban town in Central New Jersey. I think this location offers the best of all worlds: Locally, we have small independent restaurants that are getting more global in reach; and, we are just a train ride away from New York City which I feel is the premier restaurant city in the world. What a place to venture out and learn something new!
When did you first start writing?
In first grade. Oh!, you mean seriously? Since I started out cooking professionally I had the ambition to write the best children's cookbook. That was 40 years ago, and I am just realizing my dream now. I hope that my books appeal to kids, young adults, and all beginner cooks.
