Marion Aley-Parker

Biography

Marion Aley-Parker: 1932-2011 : A retired journalist with a daughter, two sons and two grandsons and a granddaughter, Marion always loved books. As a talented writer she was employed by various local newspapers and magazines and many of her letters, short stories and poems were published in national publications. She started writing Falls the Shadow on her retirement. Completed in 2010 she created a world where planet Earth had a second chance: a world where human beings were truly equal and the environment was valued and cherished. This Utopia was how she would have liked the world to be. In honour of the ‘old Earth’ humans had names that commemorated the flora and fauna of the original planet – just one of the many creative ideas she incorporated in this new world. She completed it in 2009, and was in the process of editing when she sadly died unexpectedly after a routine medical procedure. Her daughter, Lucy, having been closely involved with the progress of the book and discussed online publishing with her, took up the baton to publish. Lucy, an actor and director, had also earned her living through writing, so was qualified to complete the task on behalf of her talented mother.
On completing the edit it is obvious that Falls The Shadow should have a sequel. The copious notes, plots and additional ideas that Marion left behind feel like instructions… Her daughter Lucy is currently studying these. She is in the process of writing the scripts from Falls The Shadow and a short film and the pilot for a series are nearing completion.
Marion also wrote an autobiographical novel – as yet unfinished - called The Second Option. She has only written up to her heroine’s 20’s – which is where the story departs from autobiography and into an alternative life that could have been.
