Maia Appleby

When Maia Appleby was in first grade, she received
the “Little House on the Prairie” series for
Christmas, and she began to read it right away.
By the end of the school year, she had read the
whole series at least twice. Donning long brown
braids, a sunbonnet and a calico pinafore whenever
she could, she wished that she could go back in
time and really be Laura Ingalls.
Books do change people. Since then, Maia has loved to read stories that
take her to a new place where the characters have different, interesting
ways of thinking. She also loves to write them.
Maia lives in Florida with her daughter, a Dog named Dobby, and a bird
named Raina. They have a butterfly garden that is so full of passiflora
vines that she is pretty sure fairies live in it.
Of course, there is also a garden gnome. His name is Ranzwick.
