Marion Day

Biography

Marin Day lives in the remote Pelorus Sound in the picturesque Marlborough Sounds of New Zealand. Her passion is writing, her love gardening and nature. Gazing from her window she sees carpeted mountains that anchor their bums into the inland sea. Three main mountains stand sentinel: Stokes (Poro-rangi – the end of the sky) centre, Kiwi to its left and Manaroa right. Then there are her residents – the oystercatcher pair screeching their headlong high sounds, two wild black swans gliding like king and queen up a sea-feeding stream. Black shags submarine the bay. Blue heron blend in an overcast sky. A rare kotuku contemplates the lightly ruffled water. And there are her land-abiding landlords – kereru, tūī and weka to name a few.

Nature has inspired her children’s picture book series (print books) – Spiny Sebastian Starfish, Black Shag and The Little Feijoa Tree (shortlisted in the New Zealand Joy Cowley Text Awards), and Pepe & Tute, the story of a rare tussock New Zealand butterfly, the forest ringlet illustrated by New Zealand wildlife artist Anna Evans.

Marion has won adult and children’s short story competitions. She has children’s and adult’s stories in anthologies. One of her pre-teen stories has been included in the ESA’s New Zealand textbook for secondary school students - Level 1 Literacy Learning Workbook. Another success was as winner of the National Rural Women’s/Ministry of Primary Industry’s short story and photographic competition, which saw her in Parliament to accept her award. Marion sometimes dabbles in poetry. One of her poems can be seen in the prestigious Bird Words: New Zealand Writers on Birds. (Published Penguin Random House). Marion also blogs on her website.

  • Celebrate the Dandelions on April 01, 2015

I have read this book, previously, reviewing chapter by chapter as each was posted on a private writing site. It's great to finally see Celebrate the Dandelions as an eBook, open on the world stage - where it belongs. I have long been a fan of the writer's work, having read her previous book and numerous short-stories. In this book, every emotion will be touched. You will be shocked, heartbroken, but in the end, you will see redemption. You will see a survivor. Very highly recommended.
