Mark Anthony Tierno

Biography

A full-time author and ghostwriter, I have crafted a truly epic fantasy novel that will take you to the ends of a world of magic, alien vistas, and ultimate evil. I hold a Master’s Degree in Physics, which often plays well in my creation of other worlds, and am the author of both the Maldene series and my Inspector Flaatphut series, as well as others yet to be seen. I have just one problem with writing, though: I can't stop!

NEW: I just got a bonafide professional review by Blue Ink Reviews for both Volumes One and Two of Maldene. Here's a couple of excerpts from the reviews:

“The novel offers a rich bridge into what’s obviously a more involved story in the volumes to come—a carefully described and painstakingly detailed adventure tale that will leave even fans of Tolkien impressed.”

“Tierno remains a dynamic storyteller across the book’s considerable breadth. It seems likely that the author will pen plenty more pages to resolve the questions left unanswered in this volume.”

Smashwords Interview

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Writing my books. It literally saved my life. Once I started writing the novels I'd been long planning, I had a reason to get up in the morning. This was during a time when my Dad was suffering from Parkinson's Disease (since I'd been in High School) and I was helping my Mom care for him. Let's just say that things got really depressing, but writing picked up the whole house as well as myself. My parents saw what I was working, and could at last bring my dream to life.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Thinking about the next book. That, and yoga... and biking (while thinking of the next book)... and walking in the Arboretum (while working out problems with the current story).

Series

Maldene
Maldene is a world of magic and science, a world of mystery whose ancient foundations have been laid by something far more. An Earth-swallowing world of three moons, fantastic creatures, alien landscapes, ancient and varied cultures, and characters that range from the crazy to the wise. It is also home, however, to the most villainous being known, a wizard whom it is said even the gods fear. An immortal wizard known as Miro, whose ambitions that- while still mysterious- far exceed the wildest dreams of even the most diabolical of mortals or deities. The story of Maldene spans several continents, other worlds and dimensions, the far-flung past, and many thousands of years to come. It is a quest to discover and thwart Miro's ambitions before he brings the stars themselves under his thumb. It is a story that involves hundreds of characters, and is told over Thirteen full novels. Maldene is a world beyond time... an adventure beyond imagining.

Inspector Flaatphut
The Atomic Horrors and Great Quakes of the late Twentieth Century combined with the Great Pollution Waves of the Early Twenty First produced a tired and dirty world badly in need of a new work-force. Thus were born the genetic up-lifts of the early Twenty-First Century, as species after species was uplifted into sentience to stand alongside Man in his quest for dominance and greed over an already ravaged world. Enter Inspector Henry Flaatphut of InterSpec; a former computer hacker now stuck at what amounts to a desk job, with a 300-pound badger for a boss and a wise-cracking computer named ICy. It would be a drab existence save for his talent at finding trouble of often international implications.
