Matt O’Brien is a former martial arts professional and AAU national champion. In 2009, he switched from fighting as a sport to teaching self-defense as a means of helping trauma victims re-empower themselves. He retired (sort of) from that work in 2016 after too many old injuries finally caught up with him.
Now Matt teaches Tarot and provides readings to help people wake up their intuition and reclaim more happiness in life.

When did you first start writing?
I've been writing my whole life ... mostly. When I was fifteen, I made the mistake of showing a story to some people who thought "Write what you know" was good advice. (Hint: It's not.) They tore apart all the mistakes and errors I made and nearly snuffed out the creative spark in me. Fortunately, I recovered. Back to writing now and loving every minute of it!
What's the story behind your latest book?
I'd been talking about writing a book for 30+ years, but I never did it. I always felt like I was waiting for the right time, for more training, or for someone to bless me with permission to do it. One day I woke up and realized that, at 46, no one's ever going to give me permission to write my books, live my life, or chase my dreams ... so I wrote the book I wanted to write.
Start Reading Tarot Cards Today was only intended to be a 15-page ebook, introducing people to enough information to get them up and running with reading the cards. That book turned out to be 8500 words in its first edition. Much larger than I originally anticipated, but also more satisfying. Had I known how big it would end up being, would I have even begun to write it? I doubt it.
But I did write it. And now it's available. And I hope you read and enjoy it very much.
