When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was six. My first short story was a re-working of the Aesop's Fable, The Crow and the Peacocks. I am a very wordy person and I've always loved writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I was at the Reagan Library, which is fifteen minutes away from my house, with my good friend Branson. In the library there is a section about the Cold War and Reagan's part in stopping it. The designers of the display have done a fantastic job, and in one corner is a life-sized model of the Berlin Wall. You can even tunnel under it! So on this day, I was imagining myself making a daring escape from East Germany. I said dreamily, "This would make such a good game of pretend!" (And it did: I've played it many times since!) Branson replied, "It would make a really good book, or a movie!" And, DING, I knew I had to write a book about the Berlin Wall. Thanks, Bran, for being my inspiration!
