Meredith Miller

I think that before anything else, books are about heart. When I write, I do it first and foremost for somebody else. Why not make my writing free then? because I put a lot of time into it and should at least get a little bit in return. Despite that, my biggest prize is to imagine somebody being helped by my writing.

I have two wonderful children and a supportive husband. If not for him I may have never been able to write.

Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Greeley, Colorado. I think living in a town that was neither too big, nor too small helped develop me as a child. It gave me a sense of wonder and curiosity. Because I was allowed to go visit the neighbours, especially the older ones, I learnt a lot about different types of people and how families can be very different.
When did you first start writing?
To be perfectly honest, just last year. Until then I was a stay at home mom (with a few crafts projects on the side) but it was my husband that told me he needed me to write something. Things developed from there. Don't get me wrong, I always loved books and studied lit in school, but it never occured to me to write, and without my husband and a few other friends, I wouldn't have kept it up.

Twenty stories are meant to make you, in turn, very sad and very happy. There are about ten themes which are discussed in the book in both Breaks, which try to capture the instant a person's heart breaks, as well as Hearts, which are much sweeter in nature and evoke positive feelings. The final result, of course, is meant to be a bittersweet feeling.

I think this was a lovely story! Carlton used the dates very well, segmenting the story in a meaningful manner and showing how fast things can change. I especially liked the wry acceptance Margaret showed. It would be nice to see another edition, after some proofreading and editing. The dialogue seemed a bit cut up at times, and I wish the font was a bit larger, or that the lines were set at 1.5 spacing.
