Reuben is the D to Liv's s : he is discipline to her subordination, delight to her sacrifice, devotion to her satisfaction. If I were willing to lose one half of the alliteration, I'd say he is the Dei to her agnus. In this little episode, the devious professor decides to spice up the holiday season and turn it into an exercice in control which will bring his studious pupil to new heights of pleasure. Thanks to a remarkably wide array of contraptions and an endless supply of imagination, Liv is to become her master's favourite "little helper", his very best pet. One he can proudly show off, one who will illustrate his formidable qualities as an owner, as a dom and, above all, as a lover. I bought this story as an early Christmas gift to myself and I couldn't be happier with my choice. There is pure joy in Justine Elyot's writing. Sincere relish even. She is one of these erotica authors who have understood that sex (and love) are far too important to be serious. Her characters are not sinister; they're not the gloomy type who think so highly of themselves they end up wafting in the rarefied air of boredom. Here, people laugh, their eyes glint, they smirk and giggle, they wink at one another... Sometimes they even say silly things and bite their lips in amused embarrassment. To put it simply, they enjoy themselves and each other. They love what they do and the person (or persons) they do it with. Which can only make you, the reader, love them in return. Sex, here, is not a dreadfully morose affair that requires intense philosophical pondering. It is a series of moments; moments of utmost exhilaration and fantastic creativity, of pure elation and tremendous joy. And it is steamy as hell. Of course there is reflection; of course, there is questioning. But these happen in J. Elyot's writing like they do in real life, namely when circumstances demand and/or allow it. The rest of the time, they get carried away by life and simply enjoy the ride. There is no other way I can possibly try to convince you, anonymous reading individual, to give this story a shot. The writing is terrific, the fun is great, the sex is amazing and naughty. Frankly the only way this story could be any better would be if it did your laundry for you. But you can't ask a story to do that, you silly sausage ! Be reasonable. Buy it. You know you want to.
