Michael Conlan

I was born in Melbourne, Australia. I have been living in Thailand since I was made redundant in 1997. In Australia, I worked in various financial roles, but was considered too old to work, so I did an ESL course and taught English as a second language, mainly to university students and business people. I have always had an urge to write an autobiography, and that became a reality when I taught academic writing. However, I soon realized that, while it was fun reminiscing over my life, it would not be an interesting read for others. As my last Australian employer had some of their products manufactured in Thailand, and that copy products were a problem, the idea of Sweatshop Greed was born.
After a hectic youth, playing every sport possible, I am now retired, and live quietly with my Thai wife in the very old, but beautiful town of Lampang. I enjoy swimming, and watching my beloved Hawks (AFL) each week.

Smashwords Interview

What are you working on next?
I have started writing a sequence, but have been pressed for time. In the meantime I have started writing an easy to teach Basic English Conversation course. I am testing this as we speak. My goal is to write a simple course, without all the complicated grammar, so, any native speaker can to teach English conversation. In most Asian countries, students learn a lot of grammar rules, but don't practice conversations using what they have learned. I hope my book, and DVD will get them speaking English easily and quickly, and most importantly, correctly.
Who are your favorite authors?
At my age there are so many I have read over the years. I have read several of Sydney Sheldon's novels, and was amazed to learn how quickly he would finish a book. I wish I had that talent.
Dean Koontz is an author I really like. I find it hard to put his books down. I enjoyed reading Robert Ludlum and Harold Robbins when I was younger. I would like to think my writing is a mix of all of these great writers.
I never really got into Stephen King, Leo Tolstoy or, for that matter, classical literature like Shakespeare. Although I did study him in college.
