Miranda Heaney

I was born and raised on a working farm in Wagga Wagga, NSW, where I learnt to ride horses and motorbikes, how to shoot plates hanging in trees, how to milk cows and drench sheep. When I was 10 my family moved to the Mornington Peninsula in VIC. I have always loved writing, and had written many short stories and poems in my childhood; but it was during my high school years under the guidance of my literature teachers that my passion for writing flourished. My favourite form of literature is poetry, but I have immensly enjoyed discovering the power and complexity of novellas. I am currently studying literature at Monash University.

Smashwords Interview

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is to create a world entirely under my control. I know this makes me sound like a control freak, but really, when I pick up a novel I want to be guaranteed a satisfying ending that will leave me feeling refreshed and content. When I write a book, I am able to ensure, everyone gets their just desserts, the good triumph over the bad and boy gets girl!
What are you working on next?
I am currently writing a part autobiographical novel of my final year of high school. It is a coming of age story about traumatic first love, battling peer pressures, walking the fine line of social politics and a year of firsts throughout which I, as most people my age do, attempted to connect with 'the real me'. This is an emotional and tumultous time in anyones life, and I hope readers will be able to connect to the various events and feelings throughout.
