The second book in the Watched trilogy, Protected by Cindy Hogan, is a suspenseful, romantic, and intriguing novel about a young woman who has been thrown into witness protection. Most of her being “protected,” is learning how to defend herself, keep herself hidden, and realizing who to really trust as she is constantly in danger. As she lives on a risky edge she is confronted with an ever changing environment and identity. As she must bend her personality to fit into the characters she is expected to play she learns that the only way to adapt to so many changes is to stay true to who she really is inside. This is a riveting novel that I couldn’t put down until the very last word and now I am eagerly waiting for the final installment!
