Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
LOL, this is funny. When I was about ten years old, some friends came to visit. We sat around for a little while, wondering what we could do to amuse ourselves. Someone mentioned we act out like a TV show and since I was an avid reader of Nancy Drew and Donna Parker, I volunteered to write our "skit". It was probably all of 5 or 6 pages and I titled it Midnight Horror... but we had to end at 8 p.m. (school the next day, you know!) and the amateurish writing was pretty much of a horror too.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No, I can't remember the first one I read, but I do recall at being at only maybe 4 or 5 when my mother told the stories of Goldilocks and the three bears. What fun!

  • Jonquils in the Snow on Feb. 09, 2010

Within the pages of this short read, Ms. Brooks has captured many facets of real life: hope, hope betrayed, love, love stolen, pain, pain healed, grief, grief soothed by laughter and happiness. I loved how the wintry scene was a backdrop for broken hearts, and the hope of blooming jonquils a sign that the beginnings of spring brings newness and faith. An excellent story. Thank you, Ms. Brooks, for a job well done!
  • The Rescue on June 17, 2010

Ms Vickery excels at penning a riveting romance/suspense book, but now she can add SF to her growing list of expertly written genres. This was excellent, as at first you think this is the typical crash landing on an unknown, deserted planet, but as you read further, the question becomes -- just WHO is being rescued?
  • A Confederate Yankee In Miss Annabelle's Court on Nov. 06, 2010

I don't read much time travel, so I wasn't sure what to expect with this one. Let me just say, the danger was so imminent and I got so concerned for the hero, I sat here with toes curled, wondering if he would wind up with the heroine! Well, I'm not about to give anything away. :) Read this absorbing, tender --yet tense-- love story for yourself. Wonderful descriptions!
  • Dancing With Fate on April 24, 2011

Beautifully written with highly visual scenes, you'll be transported to a world unlike any other. I urge everyone to read this story and learn the "fate" of a well-known character who you'll never imagine in any other way again!
  • Munch Ado About Nothing on Aug. 14, 2011

What an incredible tale! Such originality and creativity! I laughed and chuckled all the way through this as I munched on my corn flakes....er, hey, there's only half a box! Who's been eating my cereal????
  • Exchange on March 06, 2012

I've wanted to read this story for quite a long time, and now I have. It's excellent. Love the romance, the characters' past, the mystery of why Myah was forced to endure her "experiments". Ms. Rossano has an art of creating her descriptions to put you "there" in the setting. You felt the cold air that the jets hissed out when they wanted Myah to awaken, the dread of those awful needles about to plunge into her arms, the total confusion and disorientation of "why am I here?" My only nitpick, if I can call it that, is for the dialogue to feel more natural, the characters should speak often in contractions. To always read "I am going" or "you will be fine" is distracting and has the tendency of jerking you from the believability of the story. Overall, though, this story is a five-star winner, and well deserved!
  • A Decision of Trust on April 29, 2013

I love Ms. Brooks' stories. I love how real she makes the characters, the settings, the situations. In 'A Decision of Trust' we meet Amanda. Amanda is a widow from a marriage to a no-good cheating husband. Jake Tyler is the handsome lawyer that hires Amanda to work in his office. Jake is a widower, left to raise his seven-year-old son. Amanda needs to learn how to trust men, Jake has to learn how to love another woman other than his dead wife. One scene that I rooted for was when Amanda cleaned out her husband's clothes, took them to the garage's cement floor and beat them with a sledge hammer. Oooh, wouldn't you love for that to have been his head? LOL Then there was the senior secretary, Corinne. Jake tries to "explain" her nasty character is because she'd had a rough childhood. No, Corinne was nasty because Corinne wanted to be nasty. You want to scratch your head and think, "Jake, you're supposed to be a smart lawyer but you can't figure this devil-woman out?" Like me tell you, that was so like a man that I wanted to shake him! This is a beautifully written story of sweet romance with themes of forgiveness and acceptance. Trust your decision. Buy this book.
  • Mountain of Love and Danger on Sep. 11, 2015

A different twist on the tale of Jack climbing the beanstalk! From the first page, from the first paragraphs, from the first words, the reader is thrown into a compelling mystery. Nothing is as it seems. The diner where Gwen and Jack order a meal is...? The waiter is...? What causes Gwen to get her so nervous? Why does Jack later crash his car? When both he and Gwen are admitted to the hospital, who abducts Gwen? And why/who destroys Jack's family farm, the Greenthumb Acres? You hold your breath while you read to find these answers. Love Ms. Pallotta's play on words too. :) Check out this book for a satisfying, delighting read. Highly recommended.
