About the author
Monique Getum was born in Dallas Tx., and raised in the Oak Cliff area. In grade school, she attended St. Peter’s Christian Academy, a private Catholic school, north of Dallas. Here is where she learned and demonstrated her outstanding writing abilities, wowing her Language and English teachers, Ms. Paris and Ms. Tarpley, respectively. Throughout her school years, Monique developed a strong interest in reading and writing. However, her focus changed when she became pregnant at age 15. But Monique made a solid stance to complete her education and, pursued her high school diploma and graduated at age 17.
Now with a wonderful son in her life, Monique had to put her dreams of becoming an Author on hold; she was forced to make alternative decisions. She just could not and would not fail her son. She became an entrepreneur in her early 20’s as she tried her best to provide quality time to raise her son to become a successful young man. However, the desire to write never left her; it was always still deep within. So, in 2007, she decided it was time to get a formal education. She graduated in 2011, Cum Laude also receiving the Distinguished Student of the Year Award from DeVry University, where once again she wowed her instructors with her writing abilities.
In recent years, Monique has found that she enjoys encouraging and assisting others through the rough times in their lives. Today she is an Author, Overcomer, Life Coach, Entrepreneur, and Motivational Speaker. Her writing style takes the audience through the devastation before the manifestation, just as real life does. She focuses on how our thoughts and the things we speak, affect our day-to-day outcome. Building a world of OVERCOMERS is her vision.
