Neil previously having lived in Derbyshire, England. He used some of his real life experiences in "Proxy Lover" having attended Chesterfield College of Art, Then London University Goldsmith's college and Liverpool College of art studying Painting in the early 1960s. Spending most of his career in Colleges of Art, retiring as head of a school of art and design, he taught fundamentals of design at the university of Wisconsin, USA. His second book, 'A Cold Light', about a mining disaster and love affair, is developed from his home mining background in the Midlands coal fields. He spent a short while after leaving school down the mines in that home area.
He regularly works as a musician, previously drums but latterly tenor sax with several South London bands.
His novel, "Proxy Lover" and now "A Cold Light", builds upon some of these past experiences in the UK and USA
