The Dummy Run
by Nicholas Romano
In true picaresque tradition the novel explores the coming-of-age of Dino, a young Italian boy. Touched by the horrors of war even though evacuated to his uncle's farm in wartime Italy, he witnesses Blackshirt activities. His return to the city after the war takes him into a world of literature and philosophy. His desire to become an observer of history leads to an accidental stay in prison.
