When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm a crafter with a capital Craft. If I'm not writing I'm knitting, quilting, building dollhouses, designing jewelry, reading a lot, and indulging in the occasional binge session of TV.
When did you first start writing?
Third grade, when we were told to write an original Christmas story. I had just watched Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer the night before, so I wrote a sequel where he and his best friend had to rescue a wounded Abominable Snowman who was trapped in a blizzard. My teacher wanted to send it to a magazine, but asked me if it was original. Not understanding what she meant, I said that it wasn't (meaning that I'd used the character of Rudolph, which to my eight-year-old mind belonged to Rankin/Bass). That was that.
