Nike Izmaylov spends more time than probably necessary thinking about the people of this world. An aspiring scholar of medicine currently studying molecular and cellular biology at Harvard College, Nike pursues casual interests from across the spectrum of disciplines, from computer science to sociology, from political movements to theoretical physics. Nike hopes to one day soon change the world for the better, not merely by the word, but also by the hand. Nike has published previous children’s novels and picture books under the pseudonym “Nicole Izmaylov.”
Two weeks before graduation, a high school class gathers to celebrate a far more momentous occasion: one of their very own, Grace Tod, has donated her soul. Most applaud her sacrifice; after all, a finite number of souls exist in their world, and without a soul donation no new children can be born.
