Do you consider yourself a Science Fiction / Fantasy author?
Yes and no. All of my books have Science Fiction / Fantasy-based locations and themes, and so will my future stories. But that’s about as far as it goes. I don’t attempt to adhere to any genre rules or conventions. I add humor, romance, reflection, and action as my characters seem to dictate. With my first novel, Beyond the Providers, at times it felt more like I was channeling a story from some real beings out there somewhere that needed to be told. The same goes for my first novella Deep Space Rescue 911, except these characters by their very nature are a lot funnier.
In Beyond the Providers where is the apocalyptic disaster that most futuristic works go through to achieve utopia?
This was not an oversight, it was intentional. An ongoing theme in Beyond the Providers is that humankind has had a guiding hand helping it over the years. I’m no psychic, just an author, but from everything that has occurred in just the last 75 years, it is hard to believe that we haven’t blown ourselves up yet. Call it luck, outside intervention, or skillful sacrifice by individuals. But whatever it was, it’s not beyond belief to hope it lasts until we achieve what was depicted in the 25th century.
