L P James

L P James was born into a dysfunctional setting in Birmingham, England in 1964. At 16, a little underwhelmed and pretty unimpressed, he set off to see the world and make his fortune; convinced there had to be more to life than he'd seen up until then.

His wanderings took in adventures throughout Europe, the Middle East and America and confirmed his suspicions that there was indeed much more than he'd thus far experienced. People, places and situations he could never have imagined entwined themselves in his personal story. He developed a hunger for raw knowledge and extraordinary tales, which he gathered copiously en route and tried to distil into wisdom.

He developed an eclectic career while obtaining under and postgraduate degrees in Philosophy, History and English. He writes stories that address some of the mysteries and enigmas of our existence and attempts to do so with a light touch, making it a little easier to grasp.

He currently lives in the heart of the beautiful and historic city of Vienna, Austria. Which he does happily with his family, and ubiquitous cat and dog.

Smashwords Interview

What are your favorite books, and why?
Epic Fantasy, Lord of the Rings, Shikasta; books that take me into another world where the possibilities are endless. I also like insightful books, recently I read Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks, stories that reveal character and the decision making process people are confronted by, so I suppose it's the human story, the way that individuals deal with situations they find themselves in.
I love to be lost in someone else's world, to see, feel and experience things as they do, I love my perceptions to be stretched and to be surprised by the way a character in a story reacts to something. I love the bittersweet moment of reaching the end and finding out, but wanting more.
Most of all I like to discover what lies over the horizon, a book that takes me there and reveals what is coming is everything, it offers insight, revelation and of course a story that you have to know the outcome of.
What do you read for pleasure?
I harvest information so as well as stories I love trivia, but also I love knowledge. I like to think of myself as a philosopher in the ancient sense of the word, a lover of wisdom. I can get as lost in the latest scientific discoveries or theoretical ramblings as I can in a good narrative and I try to be broad ranging in my sources.
