Peggy Lea Baker

Although a native Californian, I have had the privilege of traveling to a few exciting places over the years. A combination of a journal entries, shoe boxes of vacation photos, and a boat-load of memories have hung around and provided enjoyable moments off and on. Ultimately, these became the sources from which I draw my ideas, create imagery, and develop storylines.

For years I enjoyed creating short stories for my children and a few of my friends. The decision to actually publish came about with the advent of e-publishing, such as with Smashwords. With perceived publishing obstacles all but eliminated, I decided to dive in and test the waters. It felt good. Encouraged, I threw myself into a serious authorship journey which has also been good.

No matter the outcome of my literary efforts, I love to write and will continue to produce books and publish them. And, if I'm able to write material that holds your interest; work that keeps you turning pages as you follow one exciting and unexpected twist and turn after another; then all the better!

Smashwords Interview

We noticed some recent changes at your Smashwords Page. Can you tell us what changes you are making and why?
Well, first of all, writing stories is an interesting and ever-changing process - at least for me. In December 2011, I published Desperate Rescue with Smashwords. I had already published that book with a vanity press, three years prior to that, but selling books with them was a huge challenge. When I discovered e-publishing, well that opened up a whole new world for me, just like it has for every other Indie writer out there.

I only intended to write individual books; in other words, stand-alone’s, but that changed somewhere along the way and my first book became the beginning of a series. So here I am, with an entire series of eight novels. But to do this, I needed to unpublish Desperate Rescue, as well as Unwitting Alliances. Both have been re-edited and are now part of the new series - Duplicity.
Do you worry about what readers will think when you unpublish something?
No. Not really. I mean, the publishing world has changed so much and the ease of publishing as an Indie writer, and particularly with Smashwords, has allowed every author the ability to make necessary adjustment, or corrections, if you will, with minimal consequences. Plus, both of those books were free. If I had sold them for a price, I might feel differently about it. But I think anyone who has already read Desperate Rescue or Unwitting Alliances, will actually enjoy the re-edits of those two books and the entire series over all.

  • How I Sold 1 Million eBooks in 5 Months on Feb. 12, 2012

"How I Sold a Million e-books in 5 Months" is an awesome and very doable blueprint for serious writers who honestly desire and are diligently working toward becoming successful authors! I appreciate John's willingness to share in great detail, his successful strategy which enabled him to achieve overwhelming success as an author in such a short period of time. Although he does not, and cannot, guarantee that everyone who reads his book and follows his strategy will enjoy the level of success he has, if a writer truly has a viable work, with determination and resolve to follow his strategy, the likelihood of success is definitely real. I love his candor, his freshness, his wit and straightforward, 'tell-it-like-it-is' approach and commentary. With book-in-hand (so to speak) I am proceeding with eagerness, determination, and excitement because the journey itself is often just as much fun as seeing the end results of the labor involved. John, thank you so much for this exciting road map! I wish you much continued success!
