Pen Stewart

Pen Stewart is de eerste fantasyschrijfster in het Nederlandse taalgebied met een beurs van het nationaal fonds voor de Letteren. Ze werd diverse malen genomineerd voor de Harland Awards, voor de Edge Zero-Award, en andere prijzen in het fantastische genre. De afgelopen jaren voerde ze promotie voor de Nederlandstalige genrefictie door lezingen te geven in bibliotheken, culturele centra en scholen, maar ook door als jurylid in schrijfwedstrijden te zetelen. Ze is de drijvende kracht achter een opleiding voor fantasyauteurs in Vlaanderen, en vele initiatieven om het genre bekender te maken, zoals het inrichten van nieuwe wedstrijden, themadagen op bestaande conventies en beurzen, en haar steun aan “Het Schrijverscollectief”.

Haar werk situeert zich in diverse verbeeldingsgenres, zoals fantasy, sci-fi, magisch realisme en dystopie en vormt vaak cross-overs van deze genres of andere, zoals het thrillergenre. Ze schrijft voor zowel kinderen, YA, NA als volwassenen.

Pen is ook illustrator en kunstenares, zo werden meer dan twintig schilderijen als kleurenafbeelding opgenomen in haar succesvolle roman “Wintercode”, en werden er tentoonstellingen rond gegeven.

Pen Stewart is the first fantasy writer in the Dutch-speaking world to receive a grant from the national fund for Literature. She has been nominated several times for the Harland Awards, for the Edge Zero-Award, and other awards in the fantastic genre. In recent years she has promoted Dutch genre fiction by holding lectures in libraries, cultural centres and schools, as well as being a juror in writing contests. She is the driving force behind a training course for fantasy authors in Flanders, and numerous initiatives to make the genre more widely known, such as setting up new contests, theme days at established conventions and fairs, and her support for “Het Schrijverscollectief” (The Writers’ Collective).

Her work is situated in various imaginary genres, such as fantasy, sci-fi, magical realism and dystopia, and often forms crossovers of these genres or others, like the thriller genre. She writes for children, YA, NA and adults alike.

Pen is also an illustrator and artist, more than twenty paintings were included as colour illustrations in her successful novel "Wintercode" (Winter Code), and exhibitions were held on the subject.
