My name is Petya Petrova. “The other face of panic” is a book for self-help for people who are suffering from anxiety disorders, and particularly panic disorder.
I was born in 1978 and 15 years ago I got my first panic attack. The beginning of this state was hard and painful. My whole Life has changed in a single moment. Everything I believed in… Everything I knew… My whole social Life… just vanished in front of the face of the panic attack. I had to rebuild myself again, day after day, hour after hour. Panic disorder forced me to take a close look at myself, to see and feel things that otherwise I would not know that even exist. I made two attempts to “fix” myself with antidepressants. Unsuccessful. This convinced me of the need to find another option for “way out”. Of course, the solution did not come right away ... It took me almost 10 years, until I get to know panic disorder. Actually to get to know myself...
When people with panic disorder, began to contact me for help, I realized that I have a message to “pay forward” and shortly after that, the decision to write everything I learned and I am still learning into a book came. This is how I was able to reach everyone who needs help, everyone who is looking for answers.
As a part of people suffering from anxiety disorders, I knew that it is extremely important these people to be approached with ultimate care, delicacy, and affection. Realizing clearly the responsibility I am undertaking and the power of the words I am using, I wrote my book “The other face of panic” in 2011.
To this very day, I communicate with people suffering from anxiety disorders actively. During this period of time, my opinion that these people need understanding before being mentored and taught how to live was confirmed repeatedly. “The Other Face of panic” is a book that offers support. It is not teaching anyone how to live.
As it is clear from the very title, the book “The Other Face of panic” aims to shift the focus of people who suffer from panic disorder from its symptoms.
Through change of perspective, i.e. recognizing and realizing the “other face” of their state, these people are finally able to accept what they considered as unacceptable till now, namely panic disorder. Without pressing them, I lead them to self-awareness. Without obtrusion, I suggest that panic disorder is not a punishment for them, but it is a call, a sign given from our subconscious mind that the path we have chosen is not the one our soul wants. Through the symptoms of our body our true “Self” wants to open our mind for something new, something better. It prepares us for a long expected Change. I slightly assure them that panic disorder is their friend who is not afraid to tell the truth, no matter how it hurts them. That panic disorder is our own unconscious choice and thanks to it for the first time in our Life we are able to see the truth about ourselves and our Lives.
I am convinced that to understand something it takes to live it first. Before trusting anyone, people with panic disorder, need to know first that this person already wore their “narrow” shoes. There is no greater teacher, no better motivator than the personal experience.
