A tense and compelling short story that really excels at establishing mood. It's a character study at heart, exploring the motivations of those who have been driven to the edge. Sometimes, the concise writing works to the story's advantage (leaving the reader imagining what's happened during these people's lives to make them behave as they do), but other times, it feels more like something is missing (the Jermaine character felt underdeveloped with wasted potential, for example). Overall, a fun and intriguing read.
