I wrote My Doghouse Bass: Rocco Carver and Friends to inspire my nephew (a cellist) and other young musicians to not give up on their instruments—especially when the going gets tough. The best things in this life are not the easy things. I hope my book is an enjoyable read, especially for those who are, or were, involved in school music—but my intent is that is has a much broader audience.
Rocco Carver, a double bassist in his early twenties, reflects on his journey, and that of several of his closest musicians friends, as they learn to play an instrument in school. Can they survive school music, and do they dare attempt a future in music once out of high school?
