Mark von Sponeck has lived all over the world, mainly in Africa and Asia but also in the US and Europe. He is currently based part of the year in Denmark and part of the year in Mozambique. Mark is the co-founder of a non-profit organization called Global Nomads Group that connects hundreds of thousands of youth around the world to get them to learn about each others’ cultures and lives and to discuss important world issues. Mark would like to inspire younger children to become excited about their fascinating world. The result is this picture book, a first in the Prince Cy Explores series.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
My father worked for the UN, so we moved around every 3-4 years to a different country, mainly in Africa and Asia. It helped influence my writing and made me believe that one should learn about the world, whether one travels or not. It is my hope that my books will help to inspire kids to learn about our world.
Why Children's books?
For 15 year I worked for Global Nomads Group, where we connected mainly high school and middle school kids all over the world, to learn about each others cultures and lives. Now, I would like to expose even a younger group of children to our world, with the idea of instilling respect and appreciation for each others differences and similarities. I hope to accomplish this via my picture book series Prince Cy Explores.
The book is intended to teach you and your child about beautiful places on Planet Earth. Even though it is recommended for ages 4 to 10 it can be enjoyed by younger or older children or even by adults alone!
