Valerie Marcley

Biography

Being called a “free spirit” brings an obligation to deliver! It’s just been life for me. As a jill-of-all single mother, I did whatever was needed and worked some wacky jobs. One great one was the privilege to work with a legendary jazz promoter producing concerts and festivals and boy, I learned a lot. When my son went off to college, I sailed off on boats, working as professional crew on private yachts in the Caribbean - interesting owners, guests and paradise.
Turning happily to writing I find my sailing days and other travels offer a mine of experiences and fabulous characters, thus parts of my books are often based on true events and real people (hmmm). Recently I retired from producing performance festivals in the historic working seaport of Gloucester, Massachusetts, where I now live.

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
In grammar school when I tried to write a book similar to the tv show "77 Sunset Strip", of which I was a fan. I made a nest in the basement and that masterpiece was left behind for whomever would find and certainly chuckle over - embarrassing!
I got serious when I was very isolated in wonderful Maine. My first book, Alizé - A Caribbean Love Story, just poured out and I couldn't wait to get back to it. It was like opening a door and being back in the Caribbean.
Describe your desk
An Asian console about five feet long with too many papers piled on it. And a laptop.
