R M Burns is a lesbian widow who has a new partner. She is in a civil partnership and happy.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote short stories in grade school as a creative outlet; I have a lot of imagination. One of my stories was selected by a group of authors for a talent contest and I had to read my story to the entire school. It was scary, but it fueled my lust to create. I have written a novel and I'm in the editing process.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My lesbian partner died and threw my life out of kilter. I looked for support and found very little. My story is an attempt to give support to other lesbians who are feeling left out. People may or may not realize or care that there is a major difference between lesbian relationships and other relationships, and in the height of grief, we need each other more than usual. I needed the understanding and I had to get it on the Internet, mostly from the underground lifestyle of which I was a part.
This is the true story of my journey through grief. I am a lesbian. Some people would consider my story racy, as I acknowledge that I was in a BDSM relationship with my deceased partner; to me it is a way of life. My main goal is to share my story with other lesbians so they will not feel alone; I felt so alone when my partner died suddenly.
