Stephen Harker

Hello there reader!

My name is Stephen Harker and as you can see from my first publication I was born and bred in Sheffield, England. Yes the Sheffield that appears on your cutlery! Also known as the 'Steel City' it is bang smack in the middle-ish of the UK. I'm a father of three girls, a husband, a musician and songwriter. Believe it or not in a previous life I was a Mental Health Nurse for a few years too!
I have been toying with the idea of writing a novel for some time and I have eventually settled on the vampire genre for my first novel because I just love them. The second book is a collection of short horror stories. Because of this, the reader is treated to hit after hit of horror, no messing around! You can pick it up and get immediately immersed in the fear and gore. I really hope you enjoy them both.
There's more to come very soon, so keep your ear to the ground. Well then, get reading and let me know what you think. Are you sitting comfortably?... then... go!

Thanks in advance!

Smashwords Interview

First of all tell us a bit about yourself?
I was born in Sheffield in the UK and have lived here all my life. Its a great vibrant city and I've lived in just about all of it at one time or another! If you travel around Sheffield and talk to the locals you get a real spectrum of people with genuine characters. You can meet the really rich or really poor, the hard and the rough all the way through to the soft and the smooth so to speak.
There's also a great music scene here which has born great artists such as Jarvis Cocker, the Arctic Monkeys, Paul Carrack, Joe Cocker, Def Leopard, Richard Hawley, the list just goes on and on.
Tell us the stories behind your first books?
Well, the first deals mainly with the great old story between good and evil, but who will win? I can tell you that its never going to be a straight forward matter when I'm writing it. It's set largely in Sheffield so I hope that the city can really embrace it.
The reader will visit very familiar places and landmarks whilst also feeling in very real danger. It has an historical aspect too, as the story jumps from the present time all the way back to 1889 and even further. I had to really research the historical facts because I wanted to use factual events that have happened within the city over the years and weave my story around it.
I really hope that after reading this anyone walking around the city will look up and think, 'Oh that's where so and so happened', and 'If you walk down there, that's where the vampire lived.'
The second novel is a collection of short horror stories. I was really interested in hitting the reader with the fear straight away. Just high levels of drama and horror. I had lots of idea's simmering away and I just didn't want to wait forever to write them all. This was the best way of getting multiple, great quality stories out there in one novel.
