Smashwords book reviews by Reese Currie

  • A Thousand Lies: Lies Every Good American Must Believe on Jan. 27, 2011

While yes, this book does offend everyone, myself included, it also provides some very valuable food for thought. It simplifies some of the lies we intellectually justify to ourselves to the point that we can see they are, in fact, ridiculous things no sane person could believe. This, to me, is akin to a modern Book of Proverbs, and the wisdom contained therein should be considered by everyone who values the truth.
  • Crooked House on June 19, 2014

This is a superb book that I cannot recommend highly enough. It features a unique and complex protagonist who is neither incredibly brave, nor incredibly strong, nor incredibly moral—a true “everyman”—and yet has a sense of justice that makes him stretch beyond his comfort zone. The author has an acerbic wit that can frequently surprise you into laughing out loud. At the same time, he does an amazing job capturing the emotions of his character in an extremely difficult and stressful situation. Yes, there are a few inconsequential editing errors now and again, a problem I’m familiar with as a Smashwords author myself. I would volunteer to help him with that for nothing but the sheer pleasure of reading his writing. If you enjoy a mystery, or if you enjoy sarcasm at it’s very best, you must download this. It is free, it introduces you to an excellent author, and it is a great story well told.
