What are you working on next?
I am going to publish my paternal grandfather's World War 1 memoir next. He grew up in Slovakia which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at that time. When I was 13, I interviewed him and wrote a diary of his experiences on the Eastern Front in World War 1 as a history project. I have always wanted to publish it, and Smashwords has provided the opportunity.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Writing is something I like to do (and would like to do a lot more of it), but it is not where the majority of my time is spent. I have homeschooled my daughter for 5 1/2 years, and she is now applying to colleges, so much of my time is keeping her and I academically on track, making sure the applications are going in, and helping her spend time with her friends.
I also have 11 cats and 4 Premarin draft horses which all need to be taken care of and loved. It seems that I cannot sit down anywhere without a cat asking for attention or just sitting next to me. As I write this, my 11 year old cat, Jacob, is sitting contentedly next to my computer. The horses require at least 2-3 hours each day. There is mucking, feeding, and water changing, and, since I live in the Northeast, snow shoveling and various blankets to put on based on the weather. Then there is pasture, barn and fence maintenance.
After that, there is the household maintenance, bills, going to the dump and shopping for essentials. We don't have a ton of luck, so we live by Murphy's law, "Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong". I have to be very flexible. So, I guess the one word that sums up what I do is "move."
