Renarda A. Williams (aka Abari Sankofa) is a native of Alexandria, Louisiana. He attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette), where he majored in History and minored in Political Science. He has three decades of experience as a columnist/reporter and contributing writer for small newspapers and magazines throughout Louisiana and Arkansas as well as suburban Atlanta, Georgia. Renarda also has more than two decades of experience as a substitute teacher, social worker, and caseworker for youth at risk. He volunteers as a children's and social-issues advocate and lobbyist. In addition, he serves as a volunteer advocate and lobbyist with various African and African American nonprofit organizations.
Renarda's passion is empowering the minds of people, with his writing, for the betterment of humanity. He is the Founder/CEO of The Umoja Network (TUN), a media-based business he created in Monroe, Louisiana on July 8, 1998, two years after he returned from the Million Man March. He currently lives in Little Rock, Arkansas with his wife, Helaine R. Williams, a features writer, columnist and society writer/photographer for the Arkansas Democrat Gazette newspaper.
