Biography

Erica Forrest grew up in a city built on the ruins of a fortress, surrounded by towers and battlements, with a German mother to tell her fairy tales with all the horror and gore intended for them.
When she's not writing her own dark fairy tales, she's reading sci-fi and fantasy, studying to be a veterinarian, or spending quality time with her pets.

What's the story behind your latest book?

While I was reading the Toad Words anthology by T. Kingfisher, I came across the loathly lady fairytale for the first time. I was immediately entranced by the idea of a gender-reversal of beauty and the beast, and just how dark the original Irish fairytale is - I started writing with the thought 'what if it was better for everyone if the curse had never been broken'

What are you working on next?

When I started Loathly, I had about 20 other fairytale retellings-in-progress. I'll continue picking away at them and see if any of them shape up to be a decent story worth publishing.
