Max woke up in this place one day knowing only that someone would be back for him.
The lack of anything tangible to grasp in terms of a memory or clue to his own identity is compounded by the refusal of nurses and orderlies alike to part with even scraps of information. A kind of currency here.
And yet at one time, he reasons, Max has known everything. He has forgotten though, as if on purpose.
