Robert E. Jernigan was born and raised in Miami, Florida where he attended local schools. He attended Stetson University before serving in the military. Bob migrated to Los Angeles where he was a computer programmer for a large local bank before relocating to Northern California, where he met and married his wife Janet. Robert attended St. Mary’s College to complete his studies for his degree.
Robert became interested in Northern California history after reading a few books about the amazing California Gold Rush. He soon found himself, along with his friend Wiley, visiting old mining ghost towns and wandering through antique stores looking for that special item he didn’t know he needed, until he saw it.
Robert purchased a book about the famous California bandit, Black Bart, and he has been hooked ever since.
Robert has become an avid collector and historian about California and it’s a subject about which he will allow you to corner him for talks. Be prepared to spend some time trying to get away.
Robert and Janet reside in Concord, California where they enjoy their three grandchildren Jack, Emma Cate and Matthew.
The man known as Black Bart had created for himself a situation that he could not live under. Isolating himself from society was his only choice, but he was determined to make the time worth living.
