Robin Storey

Biography

After many years as a freelance writer, I'm now hooked on fiction writing and love being an indie author. I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia - beautiful one day, perfect the next - where we complain if the temperature drops to below 14 degrees Centigrade.

I've written five books so far - comedy crime How Not To Commit Murder, romantic comedy Perfect Sex, an e-book of four short stories Comedy Shorts, noir romance novella An Affair With Danger (available only on Amazon) and part-memoir Making The Breast Of It - Breast Cancer Stories of Humour and Joy.

If you'd like to find out more about my books, you can find them here on Smashwords or on my website. http://storey-lines.com/my-novels/

As you can see, I love writing in a variety of genres. After writing An Affair With Danger, I realised how much I enjoy writing edgy, suspenseful stories with flawed characters who are often underdogs and frequently don't act like heroes. My work in progress is a novel with the working title of A Time For Penance, about a woman who travels 20 years back in time to undo a crime she committed.

I'd love you to come and visit my website Storey-Lines http://storey-lines.com/ and check out my blog. If you subscribe to my readers' group to receive my newsletter on books, reading and all things bookish, you'll receive a FREE e-book of my novel How Not To Commit Murder.

I'm a certified book nerd (too many books, not enough time!) and am a useful team member on quiz nights for the literary questions - but not much else. I enjoy hiking and chilling out at the beach, which is five minutes drive from my home. My partner and I walked the full Camino Frances pilgrimage (775 kilometres) across northern Spain in September and October 2016. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I would highly recommend it.

I don't have any unusual hobbies or strange pets.

Smashwords Interview

What is your writing process?
I'm in between a pantser (plotting as you go) and a planner. I don't need to have the story plotted out scene by scene, but I like to have an overall roadmap of where I'm heading and how I'm going to get there. I've found Story Engineering by Larry Brooks very helpful for this.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first story I ever read, but I was a compulsive reader as a child. Curled up in a chair engrossed in a book was my favourite activity. (still is!) I devoured all of Enid Blyton's adventure books - Secret Seven etc - the Bobbsey Twins and classics such as the Narnia books by CS Lewis, pretty much anything that took me into an entirely different world. When I was ten, I won a prize in a writing competition - 25 paperback books that I could choose myself from a catalogue. I poured over it for days - I was in heaven!
