S. Rodger Bock

Biography

S Rodger Bock is the Author of the Edenix Cycle, a series of trilogies that follow life of human colonists on a virgin world cut off from the rest of humanity.

Morgan's Curse, the first trilogy of this cycle, follows the story of Morgan, who has a twisted plan which wreaks havoc on what had been a peaceful, if untamed world. Bock has written extensively over the years and is excited to get more to his fans.

Biography

S Rodger Bock was raised in Flagstaff, Arizona. High in the mountains and surrounded by lush aspen groves and lots of Ponderosa Pine, he fell in love with the outdoors. At an early age, he began writing passionate, action-filled stories, which honestly were a little rough. Teaching himself to type on a Commodore 64, he began writing what would become the setting for the Edenix Cycle. He has two amazing kids from his first marriage and lives on California's central coast.

Smashwords Interview

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Wow that takes me back. I was in fourth grade an a teacher, Brad G, asked our class to write a short story. Most kids wrote a page or so. I wrote about seven. My character lived on the moon and went on an adventure to a planet inhabited by monkeys (hey, I was 9 years old). That writing spurred me to keep scribbling until I had handwritten five stories of a combined length of almost 200,000 words. What kind of a kid does that during grade school and junior high? I guess I learned to love my stories.
What is your writing process?
I definitely dream first. I spend weeks or months just churning through possible big arcs to cover. Then I dream up the characters. Who are they? What's their motivation? What do they want out of life? What sort of past do they have? When I get this roughly done, only then do I begin to draft. My drafting process has changed over the years. I used to loathe editing. Now, I start writing each day by reviewing what I wrote the day before, building and shaping what was put on the page in a prior session. Then new words go in. Each of my most recent novels has taken me about four months to write once the writing actually began.

Amy Good has all the potential to be a rock-star writer. Clever metaphors and good solid writing kept me reading. I felt the plot was drawn out a little longer than needed. I enjoyed the final act of the novel, where the fighting really gets going. I would have liked to see more build up of Chloe's skills during the novel. I felt frustrated by not knowing what was going on. As serious as the events were, I expected the characters to cut their normal routines much earlier and follow up with the people they were concerned about. Besides those small flaws, Amy really delivered on her first novel. Thanks for the free read. Next time charge for work of this quality!
