Sacha Quinn

Biography

Now in my mid 50's I've just given up the day job to concentrate on full time writing – for the 3rd time! Yes, I keep being given opportunities to help deliver healthcare systems in various places around the world which I just cannot refuse.

I try to look on it as research time, where I might also have new experiences and gain knowledge for my latest in progress book or short story, intermingling it with new cultures and people I come across. Recent time in Singapore, India and Bangkok and now living in Phuket have furnished me with a myriad of colourful images, depicting lifestyles which in many respects are so different from the Western world, whilst people the world over are just people and not so very different.

Without these experiences throughout life my tapestry would be quite threadbare!

I grew up in West Yorkshire in the north of England, an only child with a Polish father and English mother, which meant even as child I was well travelled visiting family in Poland, crossing the various scary communist borders, which existed in those days, before the Berlin Wall came down. Unusual for an only child I also married an only child. My two children therefore (one of each now grown up and left ages ago) have no aunts, uncles or cousins!

Often left to my own devices I was and still am an avid reader and early success in a writing competition at nine and writing my first 'book' at ten spurred me on to bigger and better things culminating in my first self-published 2015. Reading and writing were always encouraged resulting in passions which have never left me. I'm now writing the books I've always dreamed of in the erotic romantic genre though I would at some point like to write a thriller or murder mystery.

Another passion other than my husband of 35 years (I'm an incurable romantic – he is still my number one passion) is food and cooking. My idea of a good might is to invite friends round and host a dinner party serving good food and wine. Italian is my favourite though Indian is a close second. Wine is my favourite tipple, with Sauvignon Blanc as a white wine choice, a good Spanish Rioja for red and no brut sparkling would be turned down! I love dark chocolate and licorice too.

Throughout the years I've had many hobbies and interests and was a tintinnabulator at one point. Sounds rude but really is quite simple: handbell ringer (Hmm maybe one of my character could develop this interest).

I've also trained as a speech and drama teacher, aerobics instructor and I'm qualified in weight management and nutrition including sports nutrition. A 10km runner I'd love to up to a half marathon. That however is proving just a little beyond me here in the heat and humidity and of course age is not exactly on my side. But I have a philosophy – nothing ventured nothing gained. As such I learned to scuba dive a couple of years ago despite hating the water and being dreadfully sea-sick. Motion sickness tablets are a marvellous invention!

At some point when we've finished playing around Asia we'll return to Europe where I hope to be able to pick up my golf clubs and skis again which I do miss particularly when it gets far too hot here.

Smashwords Interview

What are your five favorite books, and why?
My list varies depending on what I'm reading but excluding my own books which I do actually like re-reading - this is my list for today and in no particular order of preference
:
Making Bridey by Mike Newton I love this books because Bridey is just so lovely everyone must surely love her. Great plot, great romance. Great erotica

The New Bottoming Book by Dossie Easton and Janet W Hardy. It goes hand in hand with 'the New Topping Book' And together they provided a lot of the information as part of my research for my own books. Cheating maybe having two in one - but really on this subject you can't really have one without the other.

The Pet Shop by K D Grace - such a quirky, humorous book but with a journey of discovery, a twist in the tale and of course romance. Loved this.

Carved in Stone by Donna McDonald. All her books are delightful. But this was the first one I read. The first book I usually read from an author is usually my favourite. I love this book because it has characters that are from my peer group as 'older' and not many books have that or rather didn't until indie authors started publishing. Her books give everyone hope of finding love and romance again regardless of age.

Somebody's Angel by Kallypso Masters. Emotional, tear jerker, but absolutely fantastic story of love, heartache, the fear of developing of relationships and making commitment, showing just how far someone will go to try and overcome obstacles from their past. The third book I read from this author and though I loved the others this one out of all the series did it for me against my usual like the first one best theory.
How do you approach cover design?
For my first two books I searched ready made covers and purchased them. For my third book which is the first in a new series, 'Lots of Spice', I decided to create my own. I summarise in a few sentences the main plot of the book and some items it may contain. For example 'Vanilla Spice' has a scene where one character is dresses sexily in jogging bottoms, much of the action takes place in and around a rugby club and there is a mild BDSM erotic content. So the cover has a woman's lower half in jogging bottoms and a picture depicting a rugby pitch. There is also a pair of handcuffs hanging off the last 'E' in Spice, which will be a signature running through the series. In the next book, 'Red Spice' there is a scene about a submissive's black coat with red buttons, the content is more with regards to the D/s side of BDSM, scenes and the action is mainly in kink clubs so will have a cover representative of that.
