Laura Lauman

Smashwords book reviews by Laura Lauman

  • Adam The Office Ninja on Feb. 12, 2015

This is one of the funniest stories I ever read. It´s original, short and delicious to read. The main character is not the one in the spotlight, which makes it so much better. I loved the twist in the ending, and how the author wrote it, which made it more of a surprise, a very nice and hilarious one. I will look for another stories of the same author, indeed.
  • Under the Bridge on Feb. 17, 2015

A short and heartwarming story about a blind date and how "not as planned" may not be "not as feared".
  • Relax, I'm A Ninja on March 07, 2015

A very interesting mix between romance, paranormal and ninjas. The writer made her research: some of the ninja clichés are even explained as fake in the book. The result is a very good story, with characters with hidden deeps, who change and evolve. They are not perfect: they made mistakes and suffer the results. And the bad guys are closer, and the city is more and more dangerous at each chapter, and the bad guy... It was a surprise. I reviewed this book in (Spenish)

How can I start the review of the best trilogy I ever read? For the characters, a gallery of personalities and diversity? From the great and thrilling plot? For the way this is written? For the humor based in irony For the hot-as-hell sex scenes? For the revelations in the third tome (no, I´m not that evil)? This book is, from the first to the last word, the kind of experience you will remember for a long, long time. Land uses a overused topic, like vampires and vampire hunters, and then she made a fresh, interesting, thrilling and delicious story, showing us a little of her talent. The best you can do is to download it, read how amazing this book is, and then read the rest. This is, indeed, a worthy purchase, a very good writer and an excellent trilogy.
  • Where There's Smoke on Aug. 14, 2015

After so many books and movies about superheroes, reading about the other side was a breath of fresh air in an overused topic. At least, the story, not from the Villain POV, but from a "civilian"! This is the kind of book you want to read from start to end without pause. The characters are multi-dimensional and some of them didn´t act as I suspect, the story surprised me in the good way lots of times, and it reminded me of the days I watched superheroes cartoons and I asked myself what was about to live in a city like that, full of supers, when you are just a normal person. The fact every chapter starts with a blog entry (or similar) showing the not-so-nice side of Panopolis, related to the events in the chater following, was a bonus

And there is when the series goes to "how cute are they" to "oh my, he didn´t" (who is "he" is up to debate). The series took a step up in tension, deeper in the Panopolis history and current situation, not just for Villains or the ones who wants to be one. Maggot is a Villian in all sense, and his sidekicks are sick, cruel and know how force people to do what they want. In the first book, Edward was the powerless, and now, he must be strong for both, he and his boyfriend. Is his moment to shine and show what he can do, even wnen he is not in full control of his power. And, as a Hero, he struggles. The ending (which I will NOT spoil, I´m not so cruel) was a big surprise, because the situation was one I didn´t saw had any exit, but then... Wow. Wow, character, wow. And then the rest of the things, which finished in the kind of ending preluding a great third book. Book I want to read ASAP.
