Describe your desk
I'm lucky enough to have my desk situated outside my home, on my veranda that over-looks the Indian Ocean. I find writing in the open air invigorates me. I think that this comes from being cooped up in an office for many years. All you will find on it is my laptop, a mug full of tea and the occasional packet of chips.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Good question, all my books are situated in a version of my home town of Portsmouth, England.
Assassin- The Killing Grounds is set in a dystopian future version of the city, but many of the buildings mentioned are used to this day.
James Fisher and the Bird Witch is set in the same city in 1976, and features a twelve-year old boy as he transverses the often painfully crooked and potholed roads to first love.
I haven't been back to visit in many years but I do miss the smell of the mud and seaweed stewing around the locks during a hot summer.
